5 Tips for Beating Stress

It is a known fact that at the moment we live in a fast paced and high tech world, where everything needs to be done quickly and efficiently. Today's life is full of pressure be it on the work front or at home. The stress of putting in too many hours of overtime, the stress of driving through endless traffic jams, the stress of meeting urgent deadlines, the stress of too much workload, the list can go on; however, it is important that we learn to deal with this stress so that it does not ultimately end up affecting our health.

We all know by now that stress induces not only hypertension but other heart diseases as well that can eventually kill a person. In fact according to recent research stress is one of the top causes of heart attacks in the country. This statement is in itself scary because we face stress on a daily basis. However we do not need to panic as the best way to beat stress is to learn how to manage it. Stress management is not difficult nor is it impossible. All it requires is that you learn how to relax and not take everything to heart. While beating stress is not easy, it is a skill that requires practice, as many a time we are so stressed out that we do not even notice it.

The following are five tips that one can use to beat stress and help you relax:

Remember to breathe

The above advice may sound silly, but it is in actuality quite helpful. Nearly 90% of us are always so caught up in our own world and work that we often forget to breathe. When you are faced with stressful situations or if you feel that you are likely to lose your temper at someone, take a deep breath and count to ten. Deep breathing is known to be very relaxing as it helps by circulating oxygen to various parts of the body. It also helps to lower a person's heart rate and calms them down as well. Deep breathing is a great exercise when you are feeling stressed. Try it everyday for just 5 to 10 minutes and you will feel all your troubles disappear.

Exercise

A great way to beat stress is to get regular exercise. Swimming, a brisk walk or jog and cycling are all prefect ways to deal with stress, as they help a person to deal with all the unwanted negative energy that is within them. Exercising not only helps a person relax but also helps you to get a good night sleep and aids in digestion as well. It keeps you fit and mentally more alert so that you can handle any problems that come your way.

Take up a hobby

Most doctors and psychologists often recommend that if you are particularly stressed out taking up a hobby or passion can help a person relax. This is because a hobby will help you to focus on things that you enjoy and will take your mind off stressful situations. Additionally psychologists also believe that a hobby or passion can give a person a sense of control, which many people often lose when they are stressed out.

Meditate

Meditation is a fantastic stress buster, as it helps a person to focus inwards and drown out all the noise and anxieties of the world around. Even a short five minute meditation spell can be very beneficial as it helps a person to focus on things that are important to them spiritually and helps to ease the mind, thereby helping a person relax.

Get a good night's sleep

Sleep is very essential for the body not only to relax, but also to remove harmful toxins that build up in the muscles during the day. A good night's sleep reinvigorates your body and your mind while at the same time also helps to put things into perspective by making problems seem smaller than they originally were.
